Our Work
The California Women’s Law Center (CWLC) works to ensure, through systemic change, that life opportunities for women and girls are free from unjust social, economic, and political constraints.
By focusing on Gender Discrimination, Violence Against Women, Women’s Health and Reproductive Justice, CWLC dedicates its resources to making the constitutional promise of equality a reality, and to protecting the rights of women and girls every day.
Underlying each CWLC initiative is the advancement of women’s economic security. Compared to men, women disproportionately bear the effects of poverty. Women make up about 70% of the world’s poor, largely because they face systemic discrimination in education, health care, employment and control of assets. In fighting for the legal rights of women and girls, CWLC is working to eradicate one of the most significant causes of female poverty: discrimination.
CWLC’s programs are designed to enable individuals to use the law that governs their rights and to assist them in addressing the legal issues that affect women’s economic security.
